Best United Soccer Club
As part of its commitment to the local community, Haald is sponsoring the Best United Soccer Club (BUSC), who are a group of extremely talented and enthusiastic young refugee soccer players. Haald is providing financial and organisational support to assist the club establish itself as a registered club in a major competition.

BUSC was originally established in 2001 as a social outlet for newly arrived adult refugees and soon gained a reputation as a fair but competitive force in social soccer circles. In 2006 two of the club members, Wurda Logoro and Enock Martin started training junior players as an after school activity. Wurda and Enock were concerned that many African refugee boys were struggling to find direction in their new homeland, were developing anti-social behaviour and were drifting towards the fringes of main stream society rather than integrating in a positive way. In 2008 BUSC entered an U/13 team in Division 2 of the Queensland Christian Soccer Association (QCSA) competition. The same team moved into Division 1 in 2009 and was again dominating with three players; Ayman Adam, Afrayim Ali and Tajedin Legese being selected in the QCSA U/14 State Team, which played at the National Titles in Perth in October 2009.

While BUSC is fielding only one team in the QCSA competition this does not reflect the number of boys involved with the club. Training sessions see approximately 50 junior boys participate in Wurda’s demanding training program. BUSC now aims to provide a means for all its members to play in a recognised competition in the 2010 season while continuing to assist elite players who are selected in representative teams.

From a community perspective, both parents and school representatives alike have acknowledged that the confidence and improved self-esteem the players gain from participating in club activities has a positve impact on their behavioural attitudes and academic achievements. BUSC is a cohesive, well organised and well disciplined club that provides an environment for young soccer players from disadvantaged backgrounds to (a) excel in their preferred sport and (b) develop the confidence and personal skills required to become active community participants.
The senior division of the club also has approximately 50 members who train every week-end and are active participants in social soccer matches. They too are hoping to field at least one team in a major competition in the 2010 season. :: see more ::
